While trailers are fairly simple to use and operate, like any piece of machinery, they require a few helpful accessories to function properly. If you’ve recently purchased a trailer and aren’t quite sure what you need for your new equipment, we encourage you to read through our list of helpful trailer accessories below.

Tie-Downs

To keep your cargo safe and secure inside your trailer, you’ll need to tie down your freight with a few handy tie-down cords. If you don’t already have a set of bungee cords or racket straps on hand, you’ll need to purchase a few of these inexpensive cables. However, different tie-down cords are better suited for different types of cargo. For example, straps are often required to safely haul a vehicle or heavy equipment, while bungees are better suited for smaller items that are more lightweight. Before you select your new tie-down cords, be sure to check that they’re equipped to handle your freight.

Spare Tire

The last thing you want when transporting a heavy load of cargo is to deal with a flat tire. While your truck will have a handy spare to get you back on the road, the same may not be true for your trailer. Not many trailer models come with a spare included, and you may find yourself stranded and in need of a tow if one of your tires goes flat. Thankfully, you can easily grab a spare at your nearest tire dealership, and mount it to your trailer in case of emergencies.

Tow Chains

While tow chains are typically only required by law for large to medium-sized trailers, we encourage you to purchase a set regardless of the size of your model. A sturdy set of tow chains will not only keep your trailer safely attached to your vehicle but can also help you avoid a serious accident if your hitch were to fail.
