Tips on Maintaining Your Trailer
While relatively simple machines, like any other piece of equipment on the market, trailers do require some basic upkeep and care. Staying on top of your model’s maintenance also comes with quite a few benefits, such as decreased maintenance expenses and a longer service life. To learn how to maintain your trailer and ensure it lasts a lifetime, we recommend reading through our article below.
Check Components Regularly
The best maintenance is always going to be preventative maintenance! If you can catch small issues before they become big problems, you’ll be able to save yourself quite a bit of time and money. We strongly recommend giving your trailer a thorough inspection every 3 months or so to ensure various parts and components are still working correctly, starting with your brake pads, rotors, and lights. Afterward, be sure to double-check tire pressure and tread and inspect your trailer for any signs of rust. If still in the early stages, rust can be easily removed with a rust spray and metal scrubbing tool. However, if the rust has resulted in corrosion, you’ll need to have that component or part removed and replaced.
Clean and Store Your Trailer
Rust and corrosion are leading causes of trailer damage, and you want to do your best to prevent their appearance on your equipment. Thankfully, keeping rust at bay requires very little effort on your end! When you notice dust and debris building up on your trailer, be sure to give it a quick rinse with the hose, and wash it thoroughly with a cleaner every 6 months or so. Once your trailer is washed and dried, make sure to store it correctly, covering it with a tarp and placing it indoors if possible.
