Moving around from home to home is a fairly regular event, but it’s no one’s favorite way to spend a weekend. We here at Countryside Trailer Sales want to help you get the move done fast and right, so we’ve put together a few tips on buying a cargo trailer to make it smoother, below. To learn more, or to see the cargo trailers we have for sale, contact our store in Spring, Texas, today!

Sizes

Cargo trailers come in a wide variety of sizes, and to find the right one you need to balance cargo capacity with towability. You want to be able to carry enough cargo to make the trailer worthwhile, but you can’t overload your tow vehicle safely. Check your vehicle’s GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) to find out how much more weight it can handle, then try to estimate how much any cargo trailers you’re interested in will weigh when full. You can rent a more powerful tow vehicle if absolutely necessary, but that’s only a short-term solution.

The Distance

Next, consider the distance the trailer will travel. If you’re only moving a few miles, any average cargo trailer will do, but much longer moves will require additional features, including:

A mounted spare tire

Stabilizers

LED lights

A door-hold back latch

Sturdier-than-average construction

Extra tie-down spots and tie-downs
